GA Super 32: A Look Ahead

Super 32 is honestly one of my favorite events to go to in the entire country. Its amazing, and not too far away from home. Some of the best high school folk style wrestlers in the nation descend upon Greensboro North Carolina for a weekend of some amazing wrestling. To All- American at this tournament you have to be an absolute unit and on another level. Super 32 is the type of tournament that can put a kid on a college coaches radar or even into the national spotlight and rankings. This year will be no exception, some of the biggest names in the high school scene are going to be in attendance to defend their Super 32 titles. Here are a few big named guys that are registered and will be in attendance.

  1. Bo Bassett @ 144 lbs,
  2. Jax Forrest @ 132 lbs,
  3. Anthony Knox @ 126,
  4. Melvin Miller @ 157 lbs,
  5. Aaron Seidel @ 126 lbs

Here are some household names that you might recognize that got second last year.

  1. Sergio Vega @ 138 lbs
  2. Michael Mocco @ 215 lbs
  3. Dominic Bambinelli @ 165 lbs (GA boy/ monster on the mat/ absolute unit)
  4. Vince Bouzakis @ 157 lbs (finished 3rd last year)

Its always fun to watch those top tier guys compete and beat up whatever average kid gets in their way at these tournaments, but lets move our focus to what we all actually care about, which is our Georgia middle school and high school boys and our Georgia high school girls. Some of the biggest names in Georgia are registered and will be representing the peach state next month in Greensboro. You can find some quick information about this years GA boys and girls attending Super 32 below.

The Hammers: These wrestlers are the returning placers at Super 32, for the boys, or Fargo, for the girls. These are the ones who would be looking to All-American again this year.

  • Dominic Bambinelli is a household name within the GA wrestling community. The Missouri commit made the finals last year coming up just short of a 5-3 decision. Bam pulled out of Fargo this summer due to an injury, if he has been able to heal up and practice the way he needs to, he could certainly be looking to be on top of the podium this year. Bambinelli is currently ranked 7th according to Flowrestlings high school rankings.
  • Logan Paradise finished 4th in this tournament last year losing 7-1 to Wadsworth from Ohio. Paradise is an absolute unit of a wrestler out of Colquitt County. I’m sure this UNI commit will be looking to improve upon his 4th place finish from last year and start his high school senior season off with a Super 32 champion belt. Paradise is currently ranked 5th at 144 according to Flowrestling high school rankings.
  • Drew Gorman had a heck of a run in this tournament last year finishing up in 5th place taking care of business against Laveen of Arizona in the 5th and 6th place match by a score of 13-5. Gorman is currently ranked 2nd in the nation on Flowrestlings high school rankings. The only other kid ranked higher than him is also registered for this tournament at the same weight class. Sergio Vega out of Arizona, these two will already meet eachother in WNO. The finals of Super 32 could be a rematch.
  • Antonio Mills III finished this tournament in 7th place last year which is an amazing accomplishment. Mills is currently ranked 11th in Flowrestlings high school rankings and im sure will be looking to climb those rankings after this weekend. Mills III is only a junior so he is eligible to start talking to colleges. Finishing on the podium again this year certainly wouldn’t hurt his ability to go where he wants to wrestle on the next level.
  • Ariah Mills had an absolutely amazing summer winning Fargo in both Freestyle and Greco, going undefeated on the National team at team duals and being an absolute hammer of a wrestler at Super 32 qualifier. There is no denying that Ariah Mills is an absolute monster, so much so that this 8th grader decided to forego wrestling in the middle school division and give himself a challenge and wrestle with the high school boys a year early. I will be very interested in how he does with the extra weight and older kids. Something tells me he will be hitting the top of the podium again this October in North Carolina.
  • Cody Clarke is registered for this tournament as an 8th grader in the middle school division. He finished 2nd in the middle school tournament last year only losing in the finals to another big name Ga boy Ariah Mills. Clarke has had an amazing summer beating literally everyone who stepped on the mat with him. He looked great at the qualifier a few weeks ago and I would think that he will walk through this middle school tournament with little opposition until the semis or finals.
  • Greta Garbuzovas is coming fresh off her Fargo run where she got 2nd place. Luckily the girls wrestle freestyle in this tournament so she should have been able to focus just on that style of wrestling all summer long in order to prepare. I’m sure she is looking to finish on top this time and come into this upcoming high school season with a Super 32 championship to her name.
  • Cadence Grulla, representing Team Alpha, finished Fargo in 7th place overall for the 88 lb weight class. She might be small in stature, but this girl can flat out get after it. Just like Greta, I am sure this young lady has been grinding all summer in order to not only get ready for this tournament but the upcoming high school season. I am very excited to see how she does this October in Greensboro.

The Dark Horses: Below you will find a list of GA wrestlers who are hammers in our state and are looking for success on the national level. Some of them are already nationally ranked (or should be) but just haven’t found the success they are looking for at these big national tournaments yet. They either just fall short or don’t really compete in these big national tournaments on a regular basis. Whatever the reason, we at PonyBoy are very excited for these young men and women to go out and represent the state of GA this upcoming October.
