Georgia Recap:
Day 1
Team Georgia struggled in the greco rounds for day 1 going 0-4 in pool C. On the bright side the team got better and better as the day went on, we just didn’t seem to have enough horsepower to get the job done as a team. First up was Ohio Red, Team Georgia started off halfway decent winning two out of the first three matches but Ohio Red quickly asserted their dominance winning 10 out of the final 12 matches to win the dual 52-22. Tough way to start a tournament for sure.
Next up in pool C was California Red, this dual did not go at all better than Ohio Red. California came into this dual and smacked our girls around with no mercy winning the first 10 straight matches with 6 pins until Samantha Patton and Kori Campbell got Team Georgia on the score board. California Red ended this dual before it really even got started winning by a score of 58-14.
The third dual of the day was Kansas, while we were able to get on the score board more in this dual it was not by much. Kansas won the first 5 matches in this dual, the 2 forfeits at 95 and 100 continued to put the team behind the eight ball. Alana Garner stopped the bleeding, but not for long. Kansas picked right back up where they left off winning the next 4 matches. Putting this dual out of hand early. Kori Campbell, Genevieve An, and Ayana Fletcher were all able to get on the board to make the score somewhat respectable but in reality this was not a close dual. The final score was 53-19.
The final match of the night was against Florida. Team Georgia was able to win 6 matches this dual but still ended up losing in a closer dual with a score of 43-28. Kori Campbell and Genevieve An were monsters and consistent as usual. They were helped out by Delilah Betances, Milly Hughes, Samantha Patton, and Abigail Anderson. Team Georgia went 0-4 on day 1, Greco is clearly something we do not focus on so much as a state. There is always hope that tomorrow will be a better day.
Day 2
Since Team Georgia did not do so hot in Pool C on day 1 they ere placed in the Red pool for day 2. The other teams in the Red pool were Minnesota, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Georgia will wrestle each of them on day 2 to see where they get placed within the entire tournament.
Georgia started the day wrestling Minnesota, it did not start out well with Minnesota winning 4 out of the first 5 matches. Luckily Milly Hughes stopped the bleeding for Team Georgia with a tech fall. Georgia went on to win 7 of the next 9 matches, including the final 3 matches in order to win the dual 42-30.
The winning continued in the second dual of the day against North Carolina. North Carolina was able to get the first win of the dual but then Team Georgia went on a winning spree winning 10 of the next 12 matches. Team Georgia won this dual 50-16. The final dual of the tournament was against South Carolina where Team Georgia would continue their winning ways. South Carolina won the bookends of this dual, winning the first dual and three of the final 4 matches. Team Georgia absolutely dominated the middle of this lineup winning 9 straight matches.
These Junior Womens Greco duals team left Oklahoma with an overall record of 4-3 for the tournament finishing 5th overall in Pool C, 1st in the Red pool, and 17th out of 20 teams.
Junior Women’s Greco National Duals Georgia Team Hammer: Genevieve An is the Greco Hammer. She went 6-0 throughout the 2 days of duals with 2 falls, 2 tech falls, and 2 forfeits.
