14U Freestyle Natl Team Duals Recap Day 2:

After coming in 4th place in Pool B yesterday, the 14U Ga team found themselves in the Bronze/Copper pool today. Having already started pool matches yesterday Team Ga would only have 3 matches on day 2 of the freestyle tournament. Starting the day with Maryland Team GA woke up ready to take on the best in the nation and finish strong.

Bonus points were the deciding factor in this dual. Even though GA won more matches in the dual with 9 wins. Maryland either teched or pinned in all 8 of their wins, while GA missed out on bonus points in 3 of the 9 wins. Several GA wrestlers were able to pin their Maryland counterparts but it proved to be too little too late. With David Robinsons pin at heavyweight GA had an 8 point lead with 2 matches to go. Unfortunately those last two matches did not go our way as GA gave up a tech and a pin giving Maryland the comeback win 39-38. A heartbreaking way to start the day.

Team GA would then be asked to take on Indiana. This was a close dual all the way down to the end as well. With both teams deadlocked at 32 points, the last three matches would decide the dual. Ga fell on the wrong side of that math equation this time losing 2 out of the final 3 duals giving Indiana the win by a 43-36 score. Losing all three matches in pool play means that GA would take on Arkansas for 7th and 8th place in the Bronze/Copper pool in the final match of the tournament.

Going back and forth to start the dual Arkansas looked as if they would be a formidable opponent but Walker Woodard started a 3 match tech fall streak which would give Team GA a lead they would never surrender. Arkansas would not go quietly but Georgia proved to be too much for them in the end winning their final dual 42-35 finishing the Bronze/Copper pool in 7th place.

Finishing the freestyle tournament with a 3-6 record overall, 14U Team Ga finished in 4th place in pool B and 7th place in the bronze/copper pool and 15th out of 38 teams. Not a bad showing overall for these young up and coming Georgia wrestlers. Each one of them wrestled hard and did their best in order to represent our great state. Georgia wrestling continues to be on the rise at the national stage and the future looks bright.

Schoolboy Freestyle Team GA Day 2 Hammer: Nathaniel Park came in day 2 and finished up with 3 tech falls and never surrendered a single point in any of his matches.
