This schoolboy team only had 3 more matches to go on day 2 of greco competition. After a tough first day these boys ended up in the Red/Blue pool after finishing 6th in Pool D. Starting the day with Washington, who finished 5th in Pool B, was no easy task. The dual began at the 102 lb weight class and was a back and forth dual for the majority of matches, until it got to heavyweight where Washington was able to sting together 6 straight wins to close out Georgia fairly handly with a final score of 47-32.
Georgia would have to rebound after that loss to Washington first thing in the morning and take on Texas Gold in the second match of the day. Georgia started off slow with the lower weights as Texas Gold won 5 out of the first 6 matches. Then Georgia’s middle weights found their groove and won 5 out of the next 6, Ga holding a narrow lead due to 2 pins and a forfeit. The dual would be a back and forth affair the rest of the way coming down to the last match. Going into the anchor match GA had a 2 point lead but unfortunatley Team Georgia found itself on the wrong end of a 7-6 match and losing the dual 40-39 in heartbreaking fashion.
Being able to pick yourself off after losing a dual like that is no easy task but thats exactly what these boys were asked to do for the placement match against Oklahoma Blue. The wins and losses in thie dual came together in groups. Ga started with two back to back wins, then gave up back to back losses. Then Team GA ent on a six match winning streak and looked to have the dual well in hand. OKlahoma Blue responded with their own 5 match streak to bring them right back into contention. Luckily Team GA secured the final 3 matches of the dual in order to pull out a 47-34 win to finish this pool in 5th place.
The 14U Team GA boys finished the Greco National Duals in with a 3-5 dual meet record which was goo enough for 21st place out of 32 teams.
Day 2 Greco Hammer for Schoolboy National Team: Nathaniel Park going 3-0 on the day with 3 bonus point victories for the team.
