Today, 6/12/24 began the annual National Team Duals tournament. Teams from all over the country come to compete to see which state has the best dual team in the nation. These teams will compete in two duals style tournaments in both greco roman and freestyle over the course of 4 days, June 12 to June 15th. Day 1 and 2 will be Greco Roman, day 3 and 4 will be freestyle. The 14U team competed in Philadelphia while the 16U team competed in Utah.

Both the 14U and 16U teams took part in day 1 of Greco Roman today. Both were drawn into an 8 team bracket, how they finished in their bracket will determine which crossover pool they go into the following day. Below you will find a general recap of how the 16U team finished up the first day of competition.

This Cadet duels team is absolutely packed with all stars from our home state. The wrestlers on this team along with the coaching staff should be able to put on show and represent our state very well on the national stage. Head coach Terry Allison, of Terry Trained along with Sammy Roundtree and Jacob Pedraza bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to this star studded lineup.

Team Ga got placed in Pool C with Minnesota Blue, Maryland, Michigan, Oregon, Montana, New Jersey and California. Team GA pulled Monatana in the quarters for their first round opponent. They made quick work of Montana finishing with a 49-20 trouncing The Treasure State without many problems. Out of the 17 weight classes for this age group, Team Ga only lost 4 of those with 1 of those 4 being a forfeit at 285.

In the semis Team Ga ran into California, traditionally a very strong wrestling state and exactly the teams we want to beat if we are going to become known as an elite wrestling team. After this dual ended we learned we are not quite there yet. Team GA lost to California 47-26 with some of our absolute studs taking some losses along the way.

After California knocked us out of the championship rounds, we saw Michigan in the conso semis. Ga took care of business fairly easily beating Michigan 45-25. Ga jumped up on Michigan quickly by winning the first 5 matches and 8 out of the first 9 matches. Michigan went on a 4 match win streak of their own before Team Ga finished off the dual with a 4 match win streak of their own.

Team Ga took on Oregon in the consolation finals. Out of the 17 matches wrestled Ga was only able to pull out 6 wins on a way to a 41-28 loss. After the first 10 matches Ga was winning 22-18, but then Oregon went on a 5 match win streak and won 6 out of the last 7. This Cadet team from Ga went 2-2 on the day and finished in 4th place in Pool C. Good enough to put them into the Bronze/Copper Pool tomorrow.

The Bronze/Copper pool is made up of 8 teams, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma Outlaws Blue, Idaho, Georgia, Colorado, Kansas, Oregon, and Wisconsin. GA will take on Idaho, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma Outlaws Blue in the first three rounds tomorrow.

Day 1 Greco Hammer for the Cadet National Team: Ariah Mills, 4-0 on the day with 4 tech falls. Only giving up 1 take down throughout the day.
