The Frank E. Rader Southeast Regional wrestling tournament took place this past weekend and as always attracted some of the best wrestlers from not only the southeast region of the United States but wrestlers from all over came to take part in this event. 17 states were represented in this event, even states as far away as Ohio, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. This was the last Fargo qualifier with the top 6 wrestlers qualifying. Since this is a Georgia Wrestling site we will only be discussing and recapping our home grown Ga wrestlers who finished in the top 6 in their weight classes.
You can find a quick recap of the Junior Girls weight class below. If there is no recap for a weight class it is because no Ga wrestler placed in that weight.
Junior Boys FS 100 lb weight class: This weight class was 4 man round robin bracket with 1 Ga restler competing.
Eli Bowman finished the day in 1st place with a 3-0 record. His first match was the toughest of the day where he narrowly defeated Thomas from AL.
Junior Boys FS 120 lb weight class: This weight class was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 6 Ga wrestlers competing.
Antonio Mills was the number 2 seed in this tournament but made quick work of every single opponent placed in front of him. He finished the day 5-0 and a gold medal.
Bradley Patterson came in as the 13 seed but pinned the number 4 seed and teched the number 5 seed on his way to the semis. He lost to the number 1 seed Uhorchuk from TN, but ralled back in the conso brackets to take home 3rd place.
Gabe Burns finished his day in 6th place after making it to the semis but losing to eventual champion Mills.
Junior Boys FS 126 lb weight class: This weight class was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 3 Ga wrestlers competing.
Ty Murray came in as the number 9 seed but finished in 4th place overall behind a 4-2 record for the day. The only person to defeat Murray was Mitcham from FL. Mitcham got the best of him in the quarters and the conso finals.
DJ Clarke had a disappointing tournament coming in as the number 1 seed but finishing in 5th. Clarke lost to Mtcham in the round of 16 on criteria, wrestled all the way back through the conso brackets only to come up short against Mitchum again in the conso semis.
Junior Boys FS 132 lb weight class; This weight class was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 5 Ga wrestlers competing.
Brandon Higgins finished his day in 5th place overall behind a 6-2 record. Losing in the round of 16 and then winning 4 straight to make it to the conso finals where he lost to eventual 3rd place finisher Uhorchek from FL.
Conner Doherty finished in 6th place which is good enough to qualify for Fargo at the end of the summer. Doherty was the number 2 seed in the tournament but lost in the round of 16. He rallied back in the consolation bracket to make it to the conso semis but lost to Corbin from VA, the same wrestler who beat him earlier that day.
Junior Boys FS 138 lb weight class: This was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 3 Ga wrestlers competing.
Kieron McCormack finished his day in 5th place overall behind a 4-2 record. He lost in the quarters to eventual runner up Brady from FL, then wrestled back through to the conso semis where he lost to Stewart from AL.
Junior Boys FS 144 lb weight class: This weight class was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 5 Ga wrestlers.
While the other Ga wrestlers struggled to get anything going in this SE Regional, Drew Gorman dominated this field finishing his day with a 5-0 record and a gold medal. Gorman was dominant on his way to the gold only being seriously challenged once.
Junior Boys FS 165 lb weight class: This eight class was a 64 man double elimination bracket with 9 Ga wrestlers competing. Of those 9 Ga wrestlers there are some absolute monsters in this weight class.
Konlin Weaver, the Camden Co product, finished his day with a solver medal boasting a 4-1 record. Weaver got teched in the finals to Weader, a VA standout.
Antonie Glasgow was the number 3 seed going into the tournament and did not disappoint. He finished his day in 3rd place overall with a 5-1 ecord. He fell to eventual champion Weader in the semis but rebounded in the conso bracket to take home the bronze.
James Bowers finished the day in 5th place. Losing to Bambinelli in the quarters and then wrestling back through. He lost to Glasgow in the conso semis, only to see Bambinelli again in the match for 5th.
Dominic Bambinelli was the number 1 seed in the tournament and had to injury default after his win against Bowers in the quarters. He would not be able to continue the tournament due to an unspecified reason. Since he made it to the semi finals he was able to injury default the rest of the tournamet and still qualify in 6th place.
Junior Boys FS 175 lb weight class: This weight class was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 4 Ga wrestlers competing.
Christopher Mance III was the number 2 seed going into the tournament and finished his day in 3rd place. Mance fell to the number 3 seed Wasley from WI in the semis and then never looked back on his way to the bronze.
Junior Boys FS 190 lb weight class: This weight class was a 32 man double elimination bracket with 4 Ga wrestlers competing.
Connor McCloskey finished the day with a gold medal and a perfect 5-0 record. McCloskey either pinned of teched every person they put in front of him this past weekend. Absolutely dominant performance.
Xander Dossett finished his day in 3rd place overall. Dossett lost early in the round of 16 to the eventual runner up Marjan from NC. He was able to wrestle back through the tournament and ended up with a 6-1 record.
Junior Boys FS 215 lb weight class: This weight class was a 16 man double elimination bracket with 3 Ga wrestlers competing.
Evan Wingrove finished his day in 2nd place over all and put together a 3-1 record on the day. The number 2 seed teched in the quarters and semis but didnt have the gas to take care of Blacman from VA in the finals.
Junior Boys FS 285 lb weight class: This weight class was a 16 man double elimination bracket with 4 Ga wrestlers competing.
Jacob Levy was the number 1 seed but finished in 6th place. Levy is an absolute stud so it didn’t add up that he didn’t finish higher than that until you realize that he got hurt in the semis against Cox from AL and wouldn’t be able to continue the tournament. Hopefully this young man gets back to full strength and is ready to go by Fargo.
