Pony Boy Wrestling

This past Saturday, May 11th, Life University held the Freestyle and Greco Individual State tournament. Wrestlers from all over the state, ranging from 8U to high school seniors, were in attendance. Top 4 placers in each weight class automatically qualified for Fargo this summer. Let’s take a deeper look at how the kids fared this weekend. 

For the 8U boys Freestyle brackets overall team points; 

Backyard Brawlers finished the day in 1st place with 26 points and walked away with 3 medals on the day; 1 first, 1 second, and 1 fourth. 

Level Up WC finished the day with 1 first place, 1 second, and 1 fifth place, good enough for 2nd place overall in team points. 

Dendy Trained came in 3rd overall with 1 second place finisher and 1 sixth place finish. 

8U Boys 49 lb Weight Class: This was a round robin weight class with 3 competitors. Hunter Autin from Backyard Brawlers WC handled business fairly easily, falling both of his opponents while not surrendering a point. 

Lincoln Harris from Dendy came in 2nd while 

Maddox Milot came in 3rd.

8U Boys 53 lb Weight Class: This weight was also a 3 man round robin. 

Daniel Yun from Level Up WC got 1st behind a couple of victories, beating his opponents by 6 and 7 points respectively. 

Tetsuo Anderson, from Spartans WC, managed 2nd place tech falling the third place finisher Samuel Fleewood. 

8U Boys 56 lb Weight Class: This 56 lb weight class was a little deeper than the previous 2, having 6 wrestlers registered. 

Jonah Ard from Bison Takedown WC had a stellar day finishing with 2 pins and 3 techs. Weston Chapple, from Level Up, came in 2nd place tech falling everyone but Ard. 

Jay Downey finished in 3rd going 3-2 on the day. 

Finally, Bentley Melson from Backyard Brawlers finished in 4th place. 

8U Boys 62 lb Weight Class: This was an actual bracketed style tournament with 12 wrestlers competing. 

Carter Prescott, from Woodland Wrestling, went 3-0 on the day with a pair of techs and a 16-10 finals win. 

Luke Autin, from the Backyard Brawlers WC, finished 2nd and had an impressive day with 2 pins making his way to the finals, only to fall just a little bit short in the end. 

Karson Oneal, from Sonoraville, finished in 3rd place, falling to eventual champion Prescott in the semis, pinning his conso semis match and then accepting a forfeit for 3rd. 

Reid Aultman, from the South GA Athletic Club, finished 4th overall, after rattling off 2 pins to begin the tournament Aultman fell in the semis to Autin. He pinned his conso semis match only to have to forfeit his conso finals match to finish the day. 

8U Boys 85 lb Weight Class:  This weight class only had one wrestler register for it, Asar Freeland from Glasgow WA won first place. 

10U boys Freestyle is made up of 12 weight classes ranging from 49 lbs to 120 lbs. Every weight class in this age group was made up of Round Robin style brackets this weekend. 

As far as the team points for this classification. Wrestlers representing GA finished in 1st place with 60 points overall. Seeing as how that isnt very fair, if we exclude those kids representing GA and only look at the club teams represented then the Backyard Bullies WC finished in 1st with 22 points, just ahead of the Dragons Junior WC who finished in 2nd out of the club teams. Rounding out the top 4 is Roundtree WA with 19 points and Alpha WC with 18 total team points.

10U Boys 49 lb Weight Class: This weight class was a 3 man round robin. 

Dax Bell, from Woodland Wrestling, finished in 1st place with 1 tech and 1 fall. 

Wesley Stott, from Backyard Bullies, finished 2nd place going 1-1 with 1 tech and one loss by tech. 

Avery Newton finished in 3rd place for the day. 

10U Boys 53 lb Weight Class: This weight class only had 1 wrestler register for it, Liam Gatt from Backyard Brawlers. 

10U Boys 56 lb Weight Class: This is another 3 man round robin. 

Cooper Brown, from Rockmart TC, finished the day going 2-0 with one pin and one tech. 

Easton Mort, Five Star Savannah Wrestling, came in 2nd place going 1-1. 

Anas Daoud, representing Georgia, finished in 3rd. 

10U Boys 59 lb Weight Class: This weight class was a 3 man round robin. 

Knox Hinson, from North Paulding TC,  finished the day going 2-0 with 1 tech fall and 1 pin. 

Cruz Knox, from Dragons Junior WC, finished 2nd, with a 1-1 record. 

David Elmo III, from GB Wolfpack WC, finished the day in 3rd place. 

10U Boys 63 lb Weight Class: This weight class was a 5 man round robin. 

William Ferguson, from Minion TC, finished the day 4-0 with 4 tech falls. Never giving up a single point. Needless to say, he finished in 1st place. 

Talmadge Dawkins, from Roundtree WA, went 3-1 with 2 pins and 1 tech. Good enough to finish in 2nd place. 

3rd place went to Rhett Jackson, from Rockmart TC, with a 2-2 record with 2 pins. 

Dominick Huitron, from Backyard Bullies WC, finished in 4th place with a 1-3 record. 

10U Boys 67 lb Weight Class: This weight class was also a 5 man round robin. 

Carson Powers, from Teknique Wrestling, went 4-0 with 2 pins and 2 techs finishing in 1st place overall. 

Nathaniel Markham, from Bison Takedown WC, went 3-1 on the day with his toughest match coming first. Getting a takedown in the last 25 seconds. After securing that first win, Markham had 2 tech falls, while only losing to Powers. 

Logan Shirley, from Alpha WC, finished 3rd going 2-2 on the day. 

Carter Knox, from Dragons Junior WC, finished in 4th place going 1-3. 

10U Boys 71 lb Weight Class: This weight class is a 6 man round robin. 

Drew Downey, from Morris Fitness WC, finished in 1st place with 3 techs and 2 falls. 

Luca Vitello, from Richmond Hill WC, finished in 2nd place with a 4-1 record. 

Gage Garner, from Troup Wrestling, finished in 3rd place going 3-2. 

Christian Cory, from Level Up WC, finished in 4th place with a 2-3 record. 

10U Boys 77 lb Weight Class: This weight class was a 6 man round robin. 

Sam Ingram, from Roundtree WA, finished in 1st place. Finishing the tournament with 4 techs and a pin, Ingram was dominant against the field. 

Nash Broady, from Richmond Hill WC, went 4-1 on the day with 2 pins and 2 techs. Losing only to Ingram in the first match of the day. Broady finished in 2nd place. 

Levi Moore, from Pedraza Wrestling, finished 3rd going 3-2. 

Lucas Koran, from Lassiter Jr Trojans WC, finished in 4th place with a 2-3 record. 

10U Boys 84 lb Weight Class: This bracket was a 3 man round robin. 

Colton Reed, representing Georgia, placed 1st in this weight class finishing with a 2-0 record. 

Hudson Lopes, from Garage Grapplers Wrestling, finished in 2nd place with a 1-1 record. 

Jasiah Lewis, representing Georgia, finished in 3rd place. 

10U Boys 93 lb Weight Class: This bracket was a 2 man round robin. 

In the best of 3 series, Landon Laetsch, of Alpha WC,  handled business with 2 tech falls over Michael Stoker of Dendy Trained Wrestling. 

10U Boys 105 lb Weight Class: This bracket was a 2 man round robin. In the best of 3 series, Wyatt Line, from Compound Wrestling defeated Parker Shealey, representing Georgia in 2 straight bouts. The first match ended in a tech fall, while the second finished up 8-0 in favor of Line. 

10U Boys 120 lb Weight Class: This bracket was a 2 man round robin. In the best of 3 series Creed York, representing Georgia, went 2-0 with one tech fall and one pin over Cooper Carter, also representing Georgia.
